Description Notes

Brass; hinged dial plate pierced to show compass beneath; calibrated IIII-XII-VIII by 1 to 15 (to 7.5; 24-1-2000); to 5’ from X-II. Dial plate marked ‘horison propre 60d’ folding arm for string style, decoratively engraved; latitude arm slotting through dial plate 12-60o by 50 to 1o. On the base plate compass with fleur de lis north and 16 points; index arm adjustable for magnetic variation; ‘Septentrionale 20-0-20 occidentalle’ by 10o to 1o; on verso of base plate a list of towns and latitudes.
(Two small vertical plates at either end of dial plate, one with pinhole sight, the other with a point marked. On base plate a lever/arm (function?); 24-1-2000).
