Description Notes
Brass with silvering and gilding. Decorated gilded octagonal base. Inset compass with silvered base; 8-point rose with cardinal points marked in Latin; magnetic variation marked at 20˚ W of N. Hour ring with worn gilding, divided III - XII, I - IX, numbered by I, subdivided to 30 minutes on inner rim. Latitude arc divided [2˚] - 90˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚ (silvered on inside). Reverse of compass box silvered and marked with list of towns and latitudes. Hinge of hour circle and circle marked ‘III’.
Leather-covered card box, lined with blue silk. Brass hook fastener.
