Description Notes
Decorated octagonal gilt-brass base with silvered 16-point wind rose; degree scale divided 0 - 10 - 90 x 5 (0-10 or just 10-90 (?); plus an extra 10-30; 28-1-2000), numbered by 10˚. Inset compass with silvered base; 8-point rose with cardinal points marked in Latin; magnetic variation marked at 15˚ W of N. Silvered hour circle divided III - XII, I - IX, numbered by I, divided to 30 minutes; inner rim divided 3 - 12, 1 - 9, numbered by 1, divided to 30 minutes. Silvered latitude arc divided 0 - [88˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚. (Folding gnomon on diametrical bar; 28-1-2000). Plumb bob on pierced, decorated and silvered gallows. Reverse of compas box carries a rosette decoration.
Leather-covered box, lined with blue silk. In the lid a silvered disc marked ‘Eleva Poli’ with a list of towns and latitudes.
