Description
In collaboration with pathological anatomist Carl Ernst Bock (1809–1874), Franz Josef Steger produced anatomical models in plaster, porcelain and wax, as well as experimenting with early plastics. Steger and Bock, who were based at the University of Leipzig, developed a wide range of anatomical models using direct cast and representative sculpture. After Bock’s death in 1874, Steger continued to work with the University and developed a thirty-year partnership with the Swiss anatomist Wilhelm His (1831–1904). The His-Steger models continued to be produced until 1931. This model would have been originally used as a teaching aid.
