Description Notes

Moving coil reflecting galvanometer, by J. Carpentier, French, 1905.

Suspended-coil reflecting galvanometer, Deprez-D’Arsonval type.
Mahogany case with hinged door and two brass hook fasteners; brass carrying handle and base threaded for tripod attachment. 3-element laminated U-shaped vertical magnet. Suspended coil surrounding fixed iron tube into which retreat two clamps for securing the coil when not in use. Mirror and suspension wire (adjustable by brass screw) above coil, spring beneath. Screw-operated switch for introducing resistance coil into circuit. Brass plumb line in door. 2 brass terminals with holes through case for wires from thermocouple. Oil lamp and microscope stored in inside of door and can be screwed into outside of case. These are for reading spot’s position on internal scale, which is divided 0 - 12, numbered by 1, subdivided to 0.1.
