Description Notes
Octagonal base on three feet, with slight decoration, surmounted by a silvered 16-point wind rose marked in German. Inset compass with silvered 8-point rose, adjustable for magnetic variation; degree scale divided 0 - 90˚ - 0 - 90˚ - 0, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚; cardinal points marked in latin. Gilded plumb-bob on pierced and decorated gallows. Hour circle in gilt-brass, divided on silvered inner rim III - XII, I - IX, numbered by I, subdivided to 30 minutes. Pin gnomon (with weight at lower end) extending both sides of diameter bar. Gilt latitude arc divided [5]˚ - 90˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚. Reverse of compass box silvered and decorated.
Leather-covered box; missing from inside of lid is the metal disc with signature and latitude table.
Condition good (case fair); complete
