Description
This collection is in book form and features real moss and liverwort samples labelled with their species and was made with mosses discovered in the vicinity of Manchester. Each page shows a different moss labelled with its Latin name. The maker, Edward Hobson, was an English botanist and weaver with a specialism in bryology (the study of mosses, hornworts and liverworts). This particular book was a publication created to accompany the 1818 book Muscologia Britannica: Containing the mosses of Great Britain and Ireland that was produced by William Jackson Hooker and Thomas Taylor, who encouraged Hobson to create the book.
