Sorby-Browning type micro-spectroscope (aka microspectroscope), by John Browning, English, c. 1875. Former property of Prof. George Henslow.

Brass; screw fit draw tube adaptor for microscope with a screw fit lens; brass jaws; screw adjustment of slit width; reflecting prism; side plate with a second slit, brass jaws and screw adjustment for width on a brass mount with steel clips for holding specimen tube, and a swinging mirror on an arm with screw thread adjustment; push fit draw tube for eyepiece; push fit eyepice with condensing lens and five direct visions prisms wedged in with pieces of cord; push fit eye end.

Wooden box with microscope slide and homemade microscope accessory; paper label on box lid with, in longhand, ‘From Prof. G. Henslow.’

Good condition.
