Description Notes

Gilt-brass balance; beam with steel centre knife, open box beam ends with steel knives and ‘S’ shaped hooks; steel zero index. Sits in steel ‘U’ bearings in a ‘tongue’ with fulcrum below and ivory disc with steel index above; fixed to arm and thin column support with knurled screw and cord operating over 2 pulleys lifting the beam; two flat platinisied pans; four gilt-brass crucibles; tweezers; fractional weights in a wooden box; ivory scoop; two brush attachments.

Solid wooden box has brass mounts on lid for setting up the balance and inside is carved out to accommodate the parts of the balance.
