Description
Dr W. Müller’s cosmospherical design is a free suspension that allowed the globe to swivel in any direction. Unlike tradition globe mountings that maintain a set horizon, Müller’s new configuration allows the horizon to be set at any degree desired, which improves calculations in geography and astronomy. Müller claimed that his cosmosphere avoided the faults of ancient mountings, which were only correct for the moment of noon and always hid one half of globe. This innovative design was endorsed by George Biddell Airy (1801–1892), William Whewell (1794–1866), George Peacock (1791–1858) and Henry Parr Hamilton (1794–1880).
