Description
The accurate measurement of height, width, and length is fundamental for engineering and construction. Without this information, precise calculations are impossible. Different parts of the world developed (and still use) different measurement systems, so being able to convert between different systems is also important.

This wooden ruler was acquired at the Scientific Instruments Fair in London in 1993. Little is known about its history. It includes both an inch scale and another scale on the top and right-hand side (1 unit=9 mm). It was likely used to measure feet for shoes using the sliding portion.
